Though limited in size, speed, and structural strength compared to other light carrier conversions, Ryūhō saw extensive use transporting aircraft and conducting training operations, while also participating in combat engagements including the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Designed in 1934 with conversion capability as a standard feature, Ryūhō underwent refit following the Pacific War's outbreak and entered service as a light carrier in 1942. This kit represents the vessel before flight deck extension modifications. Installed armament matches the 1942 specification rather than later 1945 configurations.
