“Radar Hunter”

MiG-29 “9-13” Ukrainian Fighter with HARM missiles

In the summer of 2022, the media reported cases of combat use of air-launched AGM-88 HARM anti-radar missiles from Ukrainian MiG-29 fighters. Despite doubts, it turned out to be true. This was confirmed by video footage that was later published on the Internet.

Thus, the engineers managed to solve the seemingly impossible task of integrating the AGM-88 HARM missile into the MiG-29 avionics system, making these fighters “Radar Hunters”.

The HARM missile, developed by Alliant Techsystems, was adopted by the US Air Force in 1983. It can engage both continuous and pulsed radars operating in frequency hopping modes.

The missile uses a two-channel mono-pulse homing warhead, with a 66kg high explosive warhead. The HARM missile is in service with the military aviation of many countries, including Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Greece and the Republic of Korea.

The Mikoyan MiG-29 '9-13' is a Ukrainian fighter jet that was originally developed by the Soviet Union in the 1970s.

It is a twin-engine aircraft that is designed for air superiority and ground attack missions.

The MiG-29 '9-13' is equipped with advanced avionics and weapons systems, including radar and infrared sensors, as well as air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles.

It is also capable of carrying the High-speed Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM), which is used to target enemy radar and air defense systems.

The Ukrainian Air Force has been using the MiG-29 '9-13' since the early 1990s and has since upgraded the aircraft to meet modern standards.

It has been used in various military conflicts, including the War in Donbass, where it has been deployed in ground attack missions against separatist forces.

Overall, the MiG-29 '9-13' is a highly capable fighter jet that has proven to be a valuable asset for the Ukrainian Air Force.

Its advanced avionics and weapons systems, combined with its speed and maneuverability, make it a formidable opponent in air-to-air and air-to-ground combat situations.
